Presented by MAGFest, the GameX main stage will feature a varied line-up of video game music bands over three days, plus chiptune artists and an open jam area. National favorite The OneUps are booked to perform several shows during the 3-day game consumer show. Other popular video game bands scheduled to perform are The Megas, Armcannon and Rare Candy. Original music acts include Fenix Down, JJ Demon and Fosterchild.

Clerks Redux

Actors Marilyn Ghigliotti, “Veronica Loughran,” and Bill O’Halloran “Dante Hicks” talk about their roles in the film that started it all, Clerks. Live Action Role Play Immersion

Zenkaikon, Philadelphia’s fastest-growing anime convention, will host the GameX cosplay contest with celebrity judges on our Main Stage. PA Jedi

Come see the PA Jedi as “Masters of the art” perform their amazing light saber choreography. Bring your younglings to attend the Padawan Academy and learn about the Jedi's weekly light saber classes! Children and adult of ALL ages are welcome to join in and learn from the Masters!

Garrison Carida®

Imperial stormtroopers to set up military outpost at GameX! Garrison Carida® will be setting up a temporary base at GameX 2009, portraying the nefarious characters (or Dark Side characters) of the Star Wars films. Civilians are invited to introduce themselves to the troops for pictures and non-combat activities.

GameX Robo Show

More than 70 robots will be on display at GameX, as four independent robotics groups join forces at GameX to demo their inventions and technology. Hands-on demonstrations will enable guests to experience the fun of robotics!

GameX Animation Festival

GameX Animation Festival will screen in the GameX Theater on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24, and is included in price of admission. Featured films include "La Main des Maîtres,” an instant steampunk classic directed at Georges Méliès School in France, plus a sneak peek screening of "War of the Worlds: Goliath", a 90-minute animated steampunk epic sequel to the classic novel by H.G. Wells, due out in 2010.

GameX Steampunk Fair & Art Competition

Steampunk is a science fiction-fantasy theme based on Victorian-era aesthetic and culture. GameX is featuring a Steampunk Fair presented by show partner Steam Gear Lab. Following are Steampunk Fair demos and events…

Steampunk Costume Ball – Friday, October 23, 7 pm to midnight

Get dressed to the nines and meet all the other interesting people. Music, dancing, tea, good conversation and a costume contest all rolled into one!

Steampunk Meet-up – Saturday, October 24, 1 pm to 3 pm

Modeled after the yearly Steampunk Meet-up at San Diego Comic Con, this largely informal gathering is an opportunity to come together and ask questions, show off what you're working on and generally be friendly.

The Steampunk Toolbox

An overview of the tools we use for making objects of the fantastic! Includes a handy dandy toolbox checklist, discussion of safety and tips on how to get ideas from your head into your hands.

Sculpting Materials

Part of the Steampunk programming series. A focused discussion and demonstration of sculpting materials used to create and embellish. From Sculpey to plastilina and everything in between.

Toy Modification and Customizing

Part of the Steampunk programming series. Paint is one of the easiest ways to get something to look like something else. Demo and review of brands, techniques and how to avoid pit falls in this essential area.

Casting and Mold-Making

Part of the Steampunk programming series. Whether you are looking to make one copy of your masterpiece or one hundred, we will show you how! Topics will include working with silicone, resin, clay and plaster.

Steampunk Art Competition

The GameX Steampunk Art Competition is a one-of-a-kind art contest designed for artists of all levels, featuring an all-star line-up of industry judges in film, animation, games and comics from Universal Pictures, DreamWorks Animation, Universal Studios, 2K Boston, Ubisoft and Turbine. Winning entries will be on display in the Artist Market area at GameX. Four finalists will receive $10,000-worth of art tools, software and technology.

The Artist Market features artists of all levels, from professionals to students, showcasing, demonstrating and selling their original artwork! Comic book art, 3-D graphics, fantasy and sci-fi paintings, sculptures, props, costume designs, whatever your interest, you can find it at the Artist Market! GameX Career Forum

As part of your GameX one-day or 3-day pass, high school and college students can attend the GameX Career Forum, a one-day conference for young people and industry newcomers to learn the ropes from industry experts and educators. Representatives from leading game companies, game production schools and game education programs are conducting hands-on workshops, lectures and roundtables with GameX attendees interested in learning more about game industry careers.

Philly Game Jam

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Philly Game Jam – Philadelphia’s premier game building event. The Philly Game Jam is a 48-hour game building marathon where professionals, students and amateurs alike can compete to build new game concepts based on a theme announced at the start of the contest. Philly Game Jam begins at 12 pm on Friday, October 23 and end at 12 pm on Sunday, October 25. GameX attendees can observe and ask questions of game developers.

The event returns in 2009, this time as part of GameX Industry Summit, October 24-25. Hosted by IGDA Philadelphia, Philly Game Jam invites game developers from all over the Northeast to bring together teams of 3 – 10 developers for 48 hours of game building excitement.
